डॉ. वीरेंद्र एम. तिवारी, सीएसआईआर-उत्तर पूर्व विज्ञान तथा प्रोद्योगिकी संस्थान (सीएसआईआर-निस्ट), जोरहाट, भारत में निदेशक और जेसी बोस नेशनल फेलो के पद पर कार्यरत हैं। वे भारतीय राष्ट्रीय विज्ञान अकादमी के उपाध्यक्ष और 70 सदस्य देशों के भूविज्ञान संघ, आईयूजीजी ब्यूरो के सदस्य के रूप में भी कार्यरत हैं। वे 2016 से 2022 तक सीएसआईआर-एनजीआरआई के निदेशक और एनसीईएसएस, तिरुवनंतपुरम, भारत के निदेशक (2015-16) रहे थे। डॉ. तिवारी ने एम.एससी. (टेक.) 1992 में भूभौतिकी में और पीएच.डी.(भूभौतिकी) 1998 में दोनों बी.एच.यू., वाराणसी से। उनकी विशेषज्ञता के क्षेत्र ग्रेविमेट्री, हाइड्रोलॉजी और जियोडायनामिक्स हैं। डॉ. तिवारी की शोध रुचि मुख्य रूप से वैज्ञानिक और सामाजिक अनुप्रयोगों की एक विस्तृत श्रृंखला के लिए प्रासंगिक उपसतह जन वितरण और जन परिवहन को समझने पर केंद्रित है, जैसे कि भारतीय स्थलमंडल में विभिन्न भूवैज्ञानिक सेटिंग्स की संरचना और गतिशीलता को स्पष्ट करना, भारतीय उपमहाद्वीप में जल भंडारण में भिन्नता और उप-बेसाल्टिक तलछटों का मानचित्रण। उनकी वर्तमान रुचि बदलते परिदृश्यों में जल संसाधनों के प्रबंधन के लिए बड़े पैमाने पर हाइड्रोलॉजिकल मॉडलिंग के साथ भूभौतिकीय डेटासेट का एकीकरण है। वे राष्ट्रीय योग्यता छात्रवृत्ति के प्राप्तकर्ता हैं; ओएनजीसी-एईजी सर्वश्रेष्ठ थीसिस पुरस्कार; आईएनएसए, सीएसआईआर, यूपी एसएंडटी से युवा वैज्ञानिक पुरस्कार; आईजीयू द्वारा कृष्णन स्वर्ण पदक, खान मंत्रालय और पृथ्वी विज्ञान मंत्रालय, भारत सरकार द्वारा राष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार, और तीनों विज्ञानों की फैलोशिप, राष्ट्रीय विज्ञान अकादमी ऑफ इंडिया और कई राष्ट्रीय और अंतर्राष्ट्रीय समितियों के सदस्य भी हैं।

Virendra M. Tiwari Dr. Virendra M. Tiwari holds the position of Director and JC Bose National Fellow, CSIR- North East Institute of Science & Technology (CSIR-NEIST), Jorhat, India. He is also serving as VicePresident of Indian National Science Academy and Member of IUGG Bureau, a geoscience union of 70 member countries. He had been the Director of CSIR-NGRI from 2016 to 2022 and the Director of NCESS, Thiruvananthapuram, India (2015-16).   Dr. Tiwari did M.Sc. (Tech.) in Geophysics in 1992 and Ph.D (Geophysics) in 1998 both from BHU, Varanasi. His areas of specialization are Gravimetry, Hydrology and Geodynamics. Dr. Tiwari’s research interests primarily focus on deciphering subsurface mass distribution and mass transport relevant to a wide range of scientific and societal applications such as elucidating the structure and dynamics of different geological settings in the Indian lithosphere, variation in water storage over the Indian subcontinent and mapping of sub-basaltic sediments. His current interest is integration of geophysical datasets with large scale hydrologic modelling for management of water resources in changing scenarios.   He is a recipient of the National Merit Scholarship; ONGC-AEG Best Thesis Award; Young Scientist Awards from INSA, CSIR, UP S&T; Krishnan Gold Medal by IGU, National Awards by Ministry of Mines & Ministry of Earth Sciences, GoI, and Fellowships of all three science National Science Academy of India. He is also a member of several national and international committees.
